Northridge Kitchens,
Opened Up and Rebuilt
Northridge kitchens come in two sizes. The 1950s–60s tracts south of Nordhoff and around the campus have the small closed kitchen of the era, 100–130 sq ft with a wall to the family room; the 1960s–70s ranches and the half-acre estates of Sherwood Forest and Devonshire Highlands were built larger, with a breakfast nook and a family room already attached, and the project there is less about square footage than about a dated layout, a soffited ceiling and cabinets that stop a foot short of it.
Two jobs hide inside every Northridge kitchen remodel. The first is the finishes: cabinetry, stone or quartz counters, tile, lighting and appliances. The second is the house underneath. The electrical here is typically 100-amp panels in most 1950s–60s houses and 125–150 amps in the 1970s tracts; a full kitchen with an induction range usually means a 200-amp LADWP upgrade. The plumbing is typically galvanized supply lines in the 1950s–60s houses, copper in the 1970s tracts, slab floors almost everywhere, and chimneys and cripple walls that still carry 1994 earthquake repairs, and the galvanized lines are replaced with copper or PEX while the walls are open. Opening the wall to the next room means an engineered beam and a structural permit, and the new lighting has to meet Title 24.
Our office is in Valley Glen, about 20–25 minutes away, and the project lead who does your estimate runs the build. On these streets logistics are simple: a small dumpster on the driveway, deliveries staged in the garage, and the site cleaned every evening. Most Northridge families stay in the home for the 5–8 weeks on site, with a temporary kitchen set up and the dust contained to the work area.

Full Scope,
Nothing Farmed Out
Custom & Semi-Custom Cabinetry
Shaker, slab, inset, and Eurostyle cabinet programs built and installed by our own team — dovetail drawer boxes, soft-close hardware, pantry and organization systems. We size cabinetry to the real dimensions of a Northridge tract kitchen, not a showroom rendering.
Stone & Quartz Countertops
We work directly with stone fabricators — no middleman markup. Quartz (Silestone, Cambria, Caesarstone, MSI), quartzite, granite, porcelain slab, and natural marble. Waterfall islands, integrated undermount sinks, and matched backsplash are all in scope.
Opening the Galley Layout
The signature Northridge project: taking out the wall between a closed galley kitchen and the living room. We coordinate the structural engineering, beam sizing, temporary shoring, and LVL or steel install — all permitted through LADBS, all under our contract.
Tile, Backsplash & Flooring
Large-format porcelain, handmade ceramic, natural stone, subway, and zellige — installed by our in-house tile crew with proper edge and transition systems. New luxury vinyl plank or tile flooring flows the kitchen into the adjacent rooms once the wall is gone.
Appliance Integration
Panel-ready refrigerators, integrated dishwashers, range hood venting, pot-filler rough-in, under-cabinet LED, and microwave-drawer cutouts — all planned before cabinets go in, so nothing is hacked in afterward.
Electrical, Plumbing & Permits
Older Northridge homes almost always need electrical brought to current code — dedicated circuits, GFCI protection, island outlets, and panel work. We handle the rough-in, the LADBS inspections, and the sign-off, so the kitchen is safe and legal, not just pretty.
Transparent from the first visit to the closed permit.
Professional, licensed and insured, and we put that in writing at every step, because a remodel is a trust decision before it is a construction decision.
California general contractor license CSLB #1021284 (General Building B), active since 2016, with general liability and workers' compensation insurance. Check the license yourself at cslb.ca.gov before you sign anything, with us or anyone else.
The proposal lists what is demolished, what is built, which finishes are included and which permit covers it. If it is not written down, it is not in the job.
When walls, floors or roofs open up we photograph what is behind them and send you the pictures. Anything beyond the scope is priced in writing before the crew continues. You never find out from the invoice.
California law caps a home-improvement deposit at $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract, whichever is less. We follow it. Progress payments follow the work, and the final payment comes after your walkthrough.
We submit the plans, meet the inspector and close the permit. You get the closed-permit record, which is what a buyer, an insurer or an appraiser will ask for.
The people who estimate the job are the people who build it. No subcontractor hand-offs, no call center; your project lead answers the phone during the job and after it.
Where We Work
in Northridge
Northridge spreads across the northwest Valley from Nordhoff Street north to the 118, with the Cal State Northridge campus at its center, the Northridge Fashion Center on Tampa, Sherwood Forest and Devonshire Highlands on their half-acre lots to the south and north, and the Metrolink station on Wilbur Avenue a mile from campus. Our office is in Valley Glen, about 12 miles southeast, a 20–25 minute drive, and the LADBS counter that reviews Northridge permits is the Van Nuys Development Services Center on Van Nuys Boulevard, on the way.
On the tracts the remodel is a wall out on a beam, an island, and a 200-amp LADWP upgrade for the induction range; in Sherwood Forest and Devonshire Highlands it is a full re-plan of a big room, often with a second sink or a butler's pantry, and the finish level rises with the lot size. Nearly every Northridge house carries a 1994 repair somewhere, and when the kitchen walls are open we look at the chimney, the shear walls and the anchor bolts before we close them.
Northridge is City of Los Angeles, so the kitchen is permitted through LADBS (City of Los Angeles) at the Van Nuys Development Services Center. The electrical and plumbing permits are pulled before demolition, inspections are scheduled around the framing and rough-in stages, and the permit is closed at final so the work shows as permitted when you sell.
No Surprise Invoices
in Northridge
A kitchen remodel in Northridge starts with a free on-site visit and ends with one fixed, written price that covers the whole scope, the permit from LADBS and the inspections, before any work begins.
The three things that change the price are the scope, what the house hides and the finishes you choose, and each is settled in writing before the crew moves on; final payment comes after your walkthrough.
If you want numbers before the visit, the kitchen remodel cost guide publishes the current planning ranges.

Right Image Builders, a licensed general contractor (CSLB #1021284) based in Valley Glen about 20–25 minutes from Northridge, remodels kitchens across Sherwood Forest, the streets around Cal State Northridge, Devonshire Highlands under one fixed-price contract: design, permits through LADBS, and construction by one crew, with final payment only after your walkthrough. 5.0★ on Google (45 reviews) and 4.9★ on Angi (103 reviews).
Go to cslb.ca.gov, choose "Check a License" and enter the number; ours is 1021284. Confirm the license is active, classified B (General Building Contractor), bonded, and shows workers' compensation. Then ask for a written fixed-price contract with scope, materials, schedule and payment terms; California law requires it, and it is the only way to hold any contractor to the promise.
Three things: the scope you choose, the condition of the house once we open it up, and the finish level. Each is settled in writing, first in the fixed price after the free on-site visit, then in a written change order if a Northridge house hides something, so the number never moves without your signature; LADBS requirements are built in. Planning ranges by tier are in the kitchen remodel cost guide.
